Intercessions for Sunday 24th May 2020

Draw your Church together, O God, into one great company of disciples together following our Lord Jesus Christ into every walk of life. Together serving him in his mission to the world and together witnessing to his love on every continent and island.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord God, We thank you for the wonderful world that you have created: for the riot of birdsong, the buzz of the bee, the scents of garden, woodland and wildflowers, and the glorious colours of everything in this beautiful world.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Keep us Good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy in this time of uncertainty and distress. Sustain and support the anxious and the fearful and lift up all who are brought low. We think, especially at this time, of those who are worried about their jobs and of teachers, parents and students who are concerned about how and when schools will open to more pupils.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, you taught us to love our neighbour and to care for those in need. In this time of anxiety give us strength to comfort the fearful, to tend the sick and to assure the isolated of our love and your love. We thank you for all the people who give support to others less fortunate than themselves.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of compassion, be close to those who are ill, afraid or in isolation. In their loneliness, be their consolation. In their anxiety, be their hope. In their darkness, be their light. Give resilience, skill and empathy to all who are caring for those who are ill and wisdom to those working for a cure.

Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen

Thy Kingdom Come

Here is the Church of England’s Thy Kingdom Come Website for you to peruse
https://www.churchofengland.org/more/church-resources/thy-kingdom-come

The Archbishop of Canterbury has some very meaningful words to say at
https://www.thykingdomcome.global/resources/light-voiced-archbishop-canterbury

On the website there is an APP that you can download to your phone or tablet, to allow you to enjoy Morning, Evening, Day & Night prayer.  A daily Podcast & a Smart Speaker [which allows you to ask Alexa or Google Home to ask for the daily service of prayer].  Don’t worry if the terms [download, APP, smart speaker etc] pass you by, there are other ways of getting involved.  Below is the website of Thy Kingdom Come, which shows that it is a global prayer movement that crosses continents and denominations’, & it would be great if we the people of God in Wath were involved.  The idea is that we set aside 11 days to pray that others may come to know the Jesus that many of us know, & to experience his transforming love.

The Global website of Thy Kingdom Come is:
https://www.thykingdomcome.global/

There is even a Thy Kingdom Come Hymn, which can be heard at

There is a tremendous amount of material on the Thy Kingdom Come website, but I wonder if we might consider joining together in using the Prayer Journal together as a Church? A Printable copy can be accessed below:
https://www.thykingdomcome.global/sites/default/files/2020-05/TKC_PrayerJournal2020_Printable_PROOF_V1_0.pdf

And a digital copy can be accessed at

On each of the 11 days, there are some words from the Bible, a reflection, a prayer and an action.  I hope you decide to join us as we pray together ‘Thy Kingdom come’.  It would also be great to see you at our Prayer Meeting next Tuesday at 2 pm or join us for Evening Prayer on Mondays and Wednesdays, via the link that I send out.

Once again, if you or anyone you know is in need please get in contact with me.

Every Blessing

John
